Operation K9 Rescue
  Training : Jumping
If you are an owner that does not mind if your dog jumps, fine. Just remember everything and everyone is fair game.... in the eyes of your dog.

It is one of the most common problems owners tell me about and the one thing owners are most inconsistent with. If your dog is allowed to jump on you but not Grandma, then you are not being consistent. If your dog can jump on your son's bed but not on your bed, you are again being inconsistent. Your dog does not have the mental ability to distinguish on who or what it is allowed to jump. Using the leash and collar and the snap-and-release method while simultaneously saying "No", then immediately praising your dog afterward will clearly teach your dog the no-jump, four-on-the-floor policy you are attempting to establish. Once your dog is trained not to jump, you can then begin to teach it a command - one everyone will use - that will allow it to join you on the couch, bed, floor or wherever. You are then being consistent as your dog knows when it can jump up. You took the time to teach it and it now understands your expectations.
