Operation K9 Rescue Happy Tails - Success Stories
Iggy
Iggy came into Operation K9 Rescue from the North County Animal Shelter. He was emaciated and could barely see from the cherry eye in both eyes. We had the surgery done on both eyes and with TLC helped him turn into a strong healthy boy just in time for him to be stricken with hemmoragic (sic) gastroenteritis. He was bleeding from his intestines. After being rushed to critical care, the vets said he needed plasma transfusions and critical care for several days or he would surely die and with treatment he had a 50/50 chance. This would costs thousands of dollars that the rescue didn’t have but looking into Iggy’s soulful eyes, we couldn’t say no. He meant too much to all of us. Now Iggy is healthy and strong and found his forever home!!!!
A note from his new Daddy & Mommy:
I am not even sure where to begin…….Operation K9 is an outstanding group of people and the work they do is exceptional in every way. My husband and I adopted Iggy April of 2004. I have been around large dogs my whole life and of all the dogs we have had over the years Iggy stands out. We wanted a dog that was older, as we both work and felt we would not be able to give a puppy the attention it would need, so we opted for an older dog. What a great choice. When we went to see the dogs we were overwhelmed with the number of volunteers and the dogs where some of the healthiest and well-behaved dogs I have ever seen. Andrea introduced us to a few dogs and then she said I have one more I would like for you to meet. She let Iggy Man into the play yard and he went directly over to my husband and placed his head on his lap, then came to me for some rubbing…….the decision was made…..Iggy Man had selected us for his new family!!! It was that simple. He is a dream! He took a while to warm up, didn’t eat all that well the first few days, never smiled, just laid around. We thought, well he will perk up in a few days……Boy were we right! He is so excited to see me when I get home, it is like a circus horse the way he jumps up and down on his hide liegs, all the while never coming in contact with me, he is so gentle. He zooms down the yard, to land on his back and roll around like a crazy man, then up again at a dead run!! He talks to me while I cook. Could care less about Al and K.C. (the cats) and loves to watch TV! I don’t care what they say he really watches it. I was busy one night cooking and I guess Iggy felt I had not spent the appropriate amount of time outside playing with him. He running in and out of the house like a mad man, so I figured he was playing…..not so….. I am at the sink and I look out the window and their he sits with one of my flip-flops in his mouth and was grunting to get my attention. Guess this was his way of telling me; to get back outside he was not done playing.
Mike and I wish Iggy could tell us what his first few years were like, so that we understood why someone would have thrown away such a beautiful and loving dog like Iggy. Operation K9 has much to be proud of in the work they do and the dogs they rescue are very blessed. We thank you very much for the work that you do!
