Operation K9 Rescue News and Events

Training:
Operation K9 Rescue emphasizes the importance of canine evaluation and hands on work with our rescues prior to placement. We also recognize the importance of a good support network for owners and adopters. As such, Operation K9 Rescue wants to remind all adopters and owners of rare mastiffs and bully breeds that we conduct our Saturday morning obedience training classes. The classes are designed for our volunteers and rescue dogs but we invite the rest of you to join. The class consists of basic dog handling, dog behavior issues and short lectures on our breeds. If you are interested in joining, please contact us for details.

November News Update:
We know it has been a while since we have updated his page! But things have been so busy here. So many dogs have gone to their forever homes and new ones with new special needs have taken their place.

Operation K9 Rescue has been a large presence throughout the Southern California area recently. We have done several breed education events at Petsmart in Encinitas, Petco in Mission Viejo, the Orange County Animal Shelter, Pet People in San Marcos and Encinitas, as well as our monthly open house in San Marcos. Most importantly Operation K9 Rescue was present at this year's Del Mar Fair. It was a huge a success! Which owe mostly to our events coordinator, Roseanna, as well as our tireless volunteers Patrick, Beth, Brian, Cynthia, Nicole, Chris and Becky and especially proud thanks to our amazing doggie ambassadors Norman, Pav, Ozzy, Cairo and Frank!! The Operation K9 Rescue booth was one of the busiest in the pet center area and made a big impression (a big slobbery impression!)

Operation K9 Rescue is proud to have participated in the Second Annual Wags for Wishes event. This fundraised for Make a Wish Foundation is one of the most extensive dog events on the west coast, Wags For Wishes allows numerous wishes to become a reality for children dealing with life-threatening illnesses. It is a wonderful cause and we are proud to be a part of it.

Operation K9 Rescue made an appearance at the El Cajon Fire Department Open House. Brewster, one of Operation K9 Rescue's ambassadors, was a huge hit with firemen, police officers and kids alike!

Our Saturday morning obedience classes have been a great success. Sometimes even requiring splitting into two classes! The classes are open to all bull breed and mastiff dogs, as well as dominant or dog aggressive dogs (sorry no human aggressive dogs allowed). Classes are also compromised of the rescue dogs currently in our rescue program awaiting their forever homes. Classes also include lectures on various topics such as living and working with a dominant dog.

The feedback on these classes has been great and new adopters have told us the classes have been invaluable in helping them help their new family member adjust to their new home. We firmly believe in educating the owners and in the proper handling and understanding of these very special breeds!!! And it makes a huge difference to our rescues before they leave the program!

A big thanks goes out to our volunteers, especially Patrick and Jacob, who make sure the dogs get worked every day. A lot of time and effort goes into making sure our dogs are properly evaluated and worked with before they go into their forever homes.

Operation K9 Rescue Inc has also been proud to begin a series of lectures and breed education seminars. We have had an educational seminar on the BARF diet (bones and raw food diet) and are looking for upcoming lectures on charitable contributions for donors and for volunteers, health issues (ie seizures, bloat), and breed education seminars on the breeds we rescue. As well as our Safety First seminars promoting the safe interaction between children and dogs. Please contact us for information on the lectures.

June 26th marked our first Operation K9 Rescue Reunion and Brag party and what a blast! We gathered for a fun night of socializing, pictures and stories! Volunteers and adopters both attended. We need to make this an annual event. Everyone was able to have fun and not worry about being put to work! The icing on the cake is that we raised over $500 for our dogs in need!

Along with the good news comes the bad. We said goodbye to one of our special friends, Rowan. Rowan was a very special rescue and joint placement between Villalobos Rescue Center and Operation K9 Rescue. Rowan has a horrible start in life but was lucky enough to find a loving home. Please read Rowan's tribute. We say a special prayer for her and can only pray that our other special rescues can find as wonderful a home and as much love as Rowan did.
