Operation K9 Rescue
  Training : Digging
If your dog digs - some don't - understand it's need to find a place to lay down or bury food. Some breeds hear subterranean critters below and want to root them out. Regardless of the reasons why, in most cases you can prevent your dog from digging.

FILL THE HOLE COMPLETELY WITH YOUR DOG'S POOP. I don't mean just a little bit either. Fill it to the brim and then cover it up with a little bit of dirt.

Your dog's fastidious instincts should stop it from digging up that hole again. It may start another one so just repeat the process until your dog gives up. Some stop right away, while others go for broke. Be persistent and you should finally win! You may have to allow your dog one hole so be prepared and choose a spot you can live with.

Oh, by the way, if your dog likes to eat feces, as some do, this may not work. In that case you may be better of constructing an area in your yard where your dog is free to dig to it's heart's content.

If your dog just likes to dig in your flower garden or a special area that you can isolate, there are electronic containment systems that are normally used to keep dogs in but can also be used to keep dogs out. Some provide a mild shock but another we have discovered, and have chosen to use and sell ourselves, provides a burst of citronella spray when the boundary is crossed. See our website under Behavior Products for more details.
